As with other Diploma programmes at IACT College, all Mass Communication subjects are delivered in PBL format. This makes an already versatile course even more dynamic. The programme is also current with direct emphasis on the social media revolution. IACT gave me an alternative in terms of how my education was delivered. Unlike all the other colleges that shoved the academic process down my throat and forced me to memorize everything, IACT handed me clues as to how I needed to pave my own path towards the education I needed. It helped me learn that being independent and having faith in me is the only key I needed to unlock doors to a successful future. Having awesome rock star lecturers like Ms. Suhana Abdul Kadir and Mr. Izal Azlee made class fun and unpredictable. This always keeps me on my feet. Having caring and loving lecturers like Ms. Anne Pereira also helps in providing me the support and backing I need. One of the most memorable experience would be running out of class and into 7 Eleven in a big group just to find out how Kickapoo marketed their drink, the 7 Eleven staff must’ve thought that we were crazy! My advice to those who are looking to join IACT is to open your mind to the new, and your heart to the unexpected. Dorothy Teoh started her career in journalism at The Star in 1983 as a reporter before leaving a year later to pursue her M.A. in Communication in the US. On her return to The Star in 1986, she was a features writer and subsequently a sub-editor until she left in 1990. She took a break from journalism and spent several years at the think tank, the Institute for Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia, before joining The Edge, then Malaysia’s first and only business and investment weekly, in 1994. As Chief Copy Editor, she was part of the pioneer team that launched the newspaper that has become an essential read for anyone wanting to know about business in Malaysia. Over the course of her career at The Edge, Dorothy held various positions, working her way up to Deputy Managing Editor, Deputy Group Editor in Chief and culminating in her being appointed Editor in Chief in 2010. She is currently CEO of The Edge Education Foundation.By combining her passion for education and her experience in journalism, Dorothy hopes to inspire a new generation of students to make a career in journalism. She will also help ensure that the curriculum at IACT College, in particular its Mass Communication programs, remains relevant to the industry.
