Daydream by NAMI:
A Celebration of Creativity,
Community and Purpose

IACT College recently hosted one of its most vibrant student-driven events of the year - Daydream by NAMI, an immersive creative showcase that brought together the talents of three flagship programmes:

  • Diploma in Mass Communication
  • Diploma in Advertising & Design
  • Diploma in Digital Marketing

What began as a poetry workshop evolved into a full-fledged creative festival, merging words, visuals, marketing strategy and community spirit into one unforgettable day.

A Gathering of Creativity and Support

The event welcomed a warm crowd of friends, family members, lecturers, alumni and even students from other institutions and programmes who came to cheer on the students. From the moment guests arrived, they were met with enthusiastic student volunteers, including Rocky, a standout tour guide whose friendliness and knowledge set the tone for the experience.

3 Programmes, 3 Creative Identities

Each diploma programme contributed its own unique flavour to the event through distinctive student-run brands:

Daydream by NAMI
(Diploma in Mass Communication)

The main organisers and the heart behind the event, IACT's the Mass Communication students, brought poetry, storytelling and communication to life. Their poetry workshop, led by lecturer, Syazwani Binti Abdul Rahim, encouraged participants to explore their creativity through personal expression, observation and emotion.

The workshop began with the Camera Roll Story exercise, where participants chose a photo from their phones and crafted a one-liner inspired by it. A simple cat photo, for instance, became: “The only creature that makes me happy.”

Students were reminded that poetry has no right or wrong, and it simply requires honesty. They later expanded their one-liners using the six senses (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch and intuition) to deepen their imagery and understanding.

Syazwani also highlighted how poetry strengthens skills vital in creative industries: voice, tone, short-form writing, copywriting, storytelling and emotional communication.

Buah Apa (Diploma in Advertising and Design)

Advertising and Design students showcased their creativity through fruit-themed merchandise, each booth offering its own identity, style and handcrafted work. From punk aesthetics to kawaii convenience-store vibes, each booth reflected the artist’s personality through:

  • Zines
  • Interactive pop-up books
  • Digital illustrations
  • Handmade crafts
  • Unique merchandise

Standout booths included:

  • Aimar’s Punk + Cat theme
  • Anti-Bullying art installations
  • Gwynett’s full pink aesthetic
  • Winry’s Kawaii Convenience Store
  • Gabriel’s Dark Medieval universe (inspired by Dark Souls)
  • Sophia’s New Age Wavy Soul
  • Modern Chinese Aesthetics & e-comics
  • Shane’s Southeast Asian wood-inspired crafts and candle holders
  • Lee’s anime-inspired blue-toned pieces (Ghibli × Gabriel Picolo)
  • Ebrahim’s minimalist eco-friendly designs
  • Harry Potter meets Malaysia meets anime mash-up worlds

Desert Dream (Diploma in Digital Marketing)

Digital Marketing students developed a marketplace experience themed around succulents and desert-inspired merchandise. Their booth married branding, consumer experience and marketing strategy into a cohesive space where visitors could purchase take-home succulents.

A Creative Playground: Booths, Games & Interactive Experiences

Rocky led guests through a colourful array of booths and attractions, including:

Gift Shop
Every attendee received a fruit-themed charm, which could also be used as currency to unlock exclusive merchandise around the event.

Nail Art Booth
A fun and relaxing corner where creativity went onto the fingertips.

Dessert Station
Showcasing student talent beyond art, with the highlight being a marshmallow cookie that quickly became the crowd favourite.

Student-Designed Tabletop Games
Several groups created their own original tabletop and card games, each produced from concept to illustration entirely by students:

  • Climate Clash – Prevent natural catastrophes
  • Health Shuffle – A medical-themed game promoted by students dressed as doctors and nurses
  • Ocean Clash – Learn about water pollution in a fun, interactive way
  • Food Fight – Battle your friends using food-based characters

Each game represented teamwork at its best. Fom game mechanics, rules and narrative, to illustrations and final production. With refinement, these creations have the potential to be mass-produced locally and maybe even become an international hit.

Giving Back: Supporting Kampung Bumbun

This event wasn’t just about showcasing talent. It carried a meaningful purpose.

The main objective was to raise funds for Kampung Bumbun in Pulau Carey, home to the Mah Meri Orang Asli tribe. This village is part of IACT’s ongoing UPLIFT initiative, with IACT previously helping to build a library for the community.

Participants who donated received a special seed-lined paper on which they could write inspiring messages. Once planted at home, the paper will grow into real plants — a symbolic gesture of hope and growth.

Talk by Local Artist Sue Jane (@OhDoodlez)

The spotlight also shone on Sue Jane, the beloved Malaysian illustrator better known as @OhDoodlez.

Fresh off her collaboration with Mamee Monster on collectible blind boxes, Sue Jane captivated the audience with stories of building a thriving creative career in Malaysia. She shared practical insights on navigating the art and design industry, staying true to one’s artistic voice, and embracing local culture in her work. Her talk left young artists inspired and energised, a vivid reminder that creative success is not just a dream, but it’s achievable right here at home.

A Day That Celebrated Talent, Passion and Purpose

Daydream by NAMI was a celebration of what happens when creativity, education, community and purpose come together.

From poetry to design, marketing to game development, IACT students demonstrated the immense range of their skills and passions. Supported by families, friends, lecturers, alumni, fellow creatives, and the BAC community, the event radiated warmth, energy and unity.

It was a reminder of the heart of IACT College:
Creative expression with real-world impact.
