From IACT to Industry: How Ezra Low Built a Career That Adapts and Evolves
Ezra Low has built a career across agencies, multinational corporations, and diverse industries, with roles spanning Essence Communications, Celcom, Genting Plantations, Carlsberg, and Volvo Car Malaysia. A graduate of IACT’s Mass Communication programme, his journey is defined by adaptability. His ability to move, evolve, and grow across different environments.
But when he first chose to study mass communication at IACT in 2004, he didn’t have a fixed career path in mind, and that was exactly the point.
For many students today, especially those navigating life after SPM, that uncertainty can feel like a disadvantage. Ezra’s journey shows the opposite. With the right foundation, not knowing exactly what you want can become your biggest strength.
At IACT, that foundation is built intentionally.

Why IACT Was the Right Starting Point
What set IACT apart for Ezra wasn’t just what he studied, but how he learned.
From early on, students are exposed to multiple areas within communication, from branding and content to trade marketing and design. He loved how it wasn’t just theoretical but it’s actually designed to help students understand how the entire industry connects.
“It helped me see how everything fits together,” Ezra says. “Not just one role, but the whole system.”
That clarity becomes powerful later in your career.
Instead of being limited to a single function, Ezra developed a working understanding of multiple disciplines, something that allowed him to move confidently across roles, industries, and companies.
Lecturers also played a key role in shaping this mindset. Adeline Kok, in particular, left a lasting impression with her structured teaching approach and genuine investment in her students’ growth.
Beyond academics, the environment at IACT encouraged curiosity and adaptability: these are the traits that would go on to define Ezra’s career.
Building Real-World Strengths
Ezra graduated with a near-perfect CGPA. But looking back, he’s clear that results alone are not what shaped his success.
“Grades matter, but they are not everything,” he says. “The way you work with people, how open you are to learning, that’s what really stays with you.”
At IACT, students don’t just learn concepts. They are constantly placed in situations that require collaboration, communication, and adaptability, skills that directly translate into the workplace.
This balance between knowledge and people skills gave Ezra an edge early in his career.

A Career That Proves the Value of Versatility
Ezra describes himself as a “jack of all trades and master of some” but in today’s industry, that’s not a weakness for him. It’s his advantage.
His career spans Essence Communications, Celcom, Genting Plantations, Carlsberg, and Volvo Car Malaysia, across industries that operate very differently from one another.
“Every organisation is different,” he explains. “You learn to adapt. The fundamentals stay the same, but how you apply them changes.”
This is where the IACT foundation becomes clear.
Ezra’s versatility created opportunities outside of them. At two different points in his career, he stepped into freelance work as a Master of Ceremonies and public speaking trainer.
They were natural extensions of the skills he had developed: communication, confidence, and the ability to engage an audience.
“Freelancing gave me flexibility and a chance to try something different,” he says.
So, Is Mass Communication the Right Choice for You?
If you’re someone who:
- Isn’t 100% sure what career you want yet
- Enjoys creativity, communication, or working with people
- Wants options, not limitations
Then mass communication isn’t a “backup choice.” It’s a strategic one. “IACT gives you the foundation,” Ezra says. “What you do with it is up to you.”
The difference is, it’s a foundation designed to grow with you.
If you’re exploring your next step after SPM, this is your chance to choose a path that keeps your options open, while still preparing you for real careers in the industry.
